Endless follow-up emails, editing your resume, calling, interviews. Job hunting can seem like such a slow process if only there were a way to make it faster! Don’t worry, there are a few easy steps you can take to make finding a new job painless, easy and quick.

If your resolution this year was to find a new job, hopefully, you can make it happen in a snap!

1. Revamp your resume

If you keep sending out job applications and not hearing back, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your resume. HRs spend an average six seconds looking at each resume, so it’s crucial that yours catches their attention.

Jon Acuff, a New York Times bestselling author says instead of dedicating the top of your resume to job search objectives, use it to talk about what you have accomplished throughout your career. This proves your focus on the results much better than just sneaking the word “result-oriented” into the application. Also, consider a CV/Resume template to help keep it concise and well-organized.

2. Strengthen your skills

The key to getting work is to work. You might not have a job at the moment, but that shouldn’t keep you from building your skills and developing your potential to the fullest.

If you can’t land a position at the company of your dreams just yet, get a volunteering or freelance opportunity in the field of your interest. These gigs might not bring you money, but guess what, doing nothing won’t bring it either. It also won’t bring you the experience and connections that the non-paying projects will.

Bottom line: don’t be afraid to invest your time into non-paying opportunities. You never know what doors they might open for you.

3. Use your network

When it comes to a job search, it’s often not about what you know, but whom you know. Jorg Stegemann, a headhunter with 10+ years of experience, says there are at least three suitable jobs hidden within a person’s existing network. Imagine how many more arise once you get to know more people!

Want to get a job asap? Network as much as possible. Go to events. Connect with professionals in your field on social media. Grow your LinkedIn connections.

Most importantly, use the resources that you already have. Reach out to people in your network. Ask them if they know of any suitable opportunities. Ask them to put you in touch with anyone who does. After all, there are only six handshakes between you and your dream job interviewer. Make sure to shake those hands.
