6 Ways To Spoil Yourself This Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s day, I’m sure you already know. It’s the most loved up day of the year, but for some of us, it doesn’t mean anything. I’ve been with my boyfriend for years and years and years and for us, Valentine’s Day can either be quite special or completely boring. I have to admit I do love Valentine’s Day. I love the thought of embracing our collective soppy sides one day of the year. This year, I’ve not really made an effort (sorry boo!) but I am feeling like loving yourself is the best gift you can give on Valentine’s Day – for sure!

I think it’s cooler to celebrate the love you have for yourself! Whether you’re loved up or not, there’s no boyfriend required in telling yourself you’re damn fine and killing it every day! So if you’re thinking of swerving all this lovey-dovey nonsense, here are a few Career Girl approved ways to treat yourself this evening that I 100% RECOMMEND!

1. Book yourself in for a treatment

It’s mid-week, so it might not be the best time to go for a spa treatment. But that doesn’t mean you can’t book yourself in for something. We’ve been looking into cold saunas recently. It’s like the exact opposite of a normal sauna. And to be honest it sounds more torturous than treat-worthy. But the way you’ll look and feel after it’s all over is definitely worth it. Not only do athletes swear by them, short bursts of intense cold are supposed to help boost your metabolism, promote weight loss, and give your circulation a boost. Your skin will look and feel better, and you’ll even get a better night’s rest!

They say three minutes in a cold sauna can give you six months of relief! Thai Square Spa in London does these treatments, and you can usually find them in spas local to you. However, if it’s just not your thang (no judgment here!) get yourself booked in for a weekend facial with the gals. You deserve it.

2. Buy yourself a new book

Kick off your self-love revolution by getting yourself a book that inspires, uplifts, and motivates you. Try reading You Do You by Sarah Knight, another revolutionary no f*cks given book about being selfish and doing what makes you happy. Second, to that, we’d recommend gifting yourself a new planner to get on top of your life and look after yourself every damn day.

The Getting Things Done planner has space for your to-dos and most importantly, sections for all your self-care rituals. It’ll remind you every day to take care of your most important asset – yourself.

3. Create a bath fit for a queen

Cleopatra famously loved to bathe in milk. If anyone deserves to bathe like a queen, it’s you. So don’t just throw in any old bubble bath, set yourself up for the best bath you’ve ever had. Every inch of you deserves a pamper, so start from the top and work your way down. My favorite bath ritual involves scalp exfoliator (which really does make your hair look bouncy when you get out!), a face mask, and bath bubbles that smell amazing and make my skin look good too.

You can even get yourself this bath tray from Urban Outfitters and spend some time reading a good book while you soak. Enjoy it and be a little extra – you deserve it.

4. Write a letter to your future self

In the spirit of self-love, write a love letter to the person who should matter most – you. A few years ago I used Future Me to write myself a letter and ask myself some questions. I can’t remember when I scheduled it to land in my inbox, or what I even put in it. But every year I wonder if I’ll receive that email and have a huge blast from the past.

This is your chance to really think about what you want for yourself from the future, and the questions you’d want to ask yourself. You’ll forget about it and then in the future – a nice surprise will remind you of where you were and how far you’ve come.

5. Start a journal

Yes, now’s the perfect time to write in a journal. Most successful people do this every day, not only to compile your future memoir (hello bestseller!) but to help you process the things that happen every day. It’s completely normal to pour all your most negative, whiny thoughts into a journal. In fact, it’d be startling if every day was a super happy day – but once you start doing that, your inner critic will feel silenced. You’ll have moaned about everything you need to moan about on paper and can focus on a happy, positive life. You can even use The Getting Things Done planner as a diary, and keep track of your lifestyle every day, too.

Get a copy of The Artist’s Way Course to guide you, it’s a 12-week coursebook to follow that’ll help you be more connected and creative. Most respected authors and creatives have read this and followed it, so do yourself a favor and give it a go, too.

6. Spread the love around

Give yourself a Valentine’s Day boost by picking up the phone and dialing a number. Whether it’s your grandparents, your best friend, or your parents. Ask them what they’re up to and give them a boost of love. You can make someone’s day just by remembering them and reaching out.

Do something nice for someone just because you can. Send flowers to your loved ones, give your sister access to your Netflix account. You won’t regret it.

I’d love to know what you girls are up to this Valentine’s Day. Do you love or hate the day? Let me know in the comments…
