The TV Shows Everyone Was Obsessed With This Year

It’s been a good year for TV, and collectively, we’ve been a little occupied with dark, spooky, macabre shows. From crime dramas to strange things, it’s been the year of whodunnits and documentaries, period dramas and updates of our favorite shows.

There’s only one month left in the year, so here are some of the shows we were obsessed with!

The Americans (FX)

The Americans follows Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, two KGB spies in an arranged marriage posing as Americans shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected president. They have two children, who are unaware that their parents are spies. Obviously, living in America poses some problems and troubles for them, Philip warms up to America’s values, the marriage is tested, and FBI agent Stan Beeman moves in next door. It sounds like a madcap group of people living on one street, but it’s dramatic and it’s soooo watchable.

Game of Thrones (HBO)

Of course, it’s all about GOT. It seems like a year since the last series aired, but no other show gets so many people talking like this one does. If you haven’t watched it yet, just watch it. Every season brings something else to the table.

Stranger Things (Netflix)

Stranger Things is everybody’s favorite show. It follows a group of friends who are searching for their friend Will, who’s gone missing. Winona Ryder stars as his mother and is desperate to find where her son went. This isn’t your average missing kid drama, there’s some scary goings-on, freaky monsters and an unusual (but so cool) little girl called Eleven.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (FX)

Everybody was obsessed with this show. Because everybody’s heard of the O.J. Simpson murder trial, and this tells the story of that from the lawyers’ viewpoints. Packed with amazing actors including John Travolta, and David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, this dramatic re-telling is as scandalous as it was at the time.

The Crown (Netflix)

Stepping away from thrillers and into period dramas, this lavish Netflix-original chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II. And let’s be honest, there’s enough drama, material and political rivalries there to make the show juicy enough to keep watching!

The Fall (BBC 2/ Netflix)

Another thrilling show, The Fall pits a serial killer against a female detective. The killer is a father and husband leading a double life. But the real thrill is the cat and mouse game that’ll keep you hooked.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life (Netflix)

The announcement of A Year In The Life got a lot of Gilmore Girls newbies watching, and longtime fans watching the show again. After the events of the show ten years ago, A Year In The Life chronicles life in Stars Hollow and catches up with everyone’s favorite characters. It’s easy watching, I think that’s what people really like about it.

The Night Of (HBO)

Nasir “Naz” Khan’s night turns bad after he meets a mysterious and beautiful girl in the back of a taxi. After going home with her, he wakes up to a house covered in blood. Later, he realizes that his survival rests with an inmate at the prison he’s being sent to.
