You’ve done your homework. You’ve found out what beauty products your favourite bloggers use, and read every review they’ve written.
You asked for recommendations at your favourite counters. Maybe you even spent an hour reading the ingredient lists on the back of every jar and bottle at the drugstore.
All to create the perfect beauty stash that will help you look your best every single day. But how can you be sure these products work as well as you’ve been told? Maybe you made a bad purchase or two, and are now using the wrong beauty products for your needs. How can you know so you can fix your mistake? Here are four ways to find out:
#1. They dry out your skin
Has your skin become dry and flaky after you’ve starting using a new toner or moisturizer? Then, it’s either not formulated for your skin type, or it is loaded with alcohol. Alcohol helps the active ingredients better penetrate your skin, but, when used regularly, it can also dry it out. Throw it away! But sometimes, your moisturizer doesn’t contain any nasties. It’s just not rich enough for your skin type, and so unable to protect you from harsh weather and sun damage. The solution is easy. Just upgrade to a more hydrating formula, like Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Age Erase Moisture with Mega 10 Plus. It’s hydrating and packed with anti-ageing goodies that will help you age more slowly.
#2. They make your skin break out
You’ve been using a new moisturizer or foundation for a week and, to your horror, your face is now covered in pimples! That’s a clear sign your skin hates it! To keep it happy, look for oil-free, non-comedogenic products, such as Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup Oil Free SPF 15. It provides medium to full coverage, but the finish is very natural.
#3. They make your skin greasy
Just applied a new cream, and your face is now shiny and sleek with oil? Ugh! If a lotion doesn’t sink in quickly, then it is too rich for your skin. Switch to a more lightweight formula, like Paula’s Choice Skincare Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30. It’s super light and moisturizes skin while fighting signs of premature ageing.
#4. They irritate your skin
You finally caved in and bought that new serum you craved. But uh oh, after slathering it on your skin, something bad happens. Your skin starts to burn, itch, and turns an unflattering shade of red. Your serum irritated it really bad. That’s a sure sign you should throw it in the bin!
