Wake Up Rejuvenated With These 5 Simple Steps

Getting a good nights sleep is hard at the best of times. Technology keeps us up, work stresses disrupt our dreams and late night socializing is hard to turn down. It’s difficult in this climate to wake up rejuvenated and renewed and coffee can’t cure a bad nights sleep! So, to avoid those laborious, half-open-eyed mornings here are six ways to rescue your sleep and wake up refreshed.

1. Create a routine

Routine can fix a lot of the day’s problems and it’s especially integral in the mornings and evenings to kick-start and end your day right.  Waking up at the same time every morning might seem daunting, especially if you’ve had a late one the night before, but studies have shown that consistency is the key to energy.  Waking up at the same time each morning stabilizes your circadian rhythm, causing you to become tired at the same time every night and increasing your productivity during the day. A rested nights sleep is the key to waking up revitalized, so get into the habit of a strict sleep schedule and stick to it!

2. Make Breakfast Your Heaviest Meal

Energy is used to digest food. Eating a heavy meal before bed takes longer to digest, energizing your body and keeping you awake. Making breakfast your bulkiest meal means you are using your energy resourcefully and not overworking your body when it needs to wind down. Your meals should get smaller and lighter as the day progresses and avoid food at least an hour before bed.

3. Walk Your Way To Better Sleep

Excercise is hard to fit into a busy schedule, but it’s so important for maintaining a healthy mental and physical state, encouraging better sleep. It’s not rocket science that the more you wear yourself out during the day, the better you rest! If you can’t fit prolonged exercise into your daily schedule, attempt to do a little walking every evening after you’ve eaten. It’s a natural relaxant and puts you into a meditative state that’s perfect just before bed!

4. Go Herbal

Herbal teas can increase energy levels naturally. While caffeine can temporarily relieve tiredness, it also causes dependency and crashes- not a great solution in the long run. Some of the best herbal teas known to boost energy levels have great beautifying properties as well, so there’s no excuse not to give them a try! Ginseng is excellent for energy and resilience, while rosehip is full of rejuvenating vitamin C as well as being anti-aging and licorice restores, whereas ginger uplifts!

5. Save Your Showers For Morning

There is nothing more powerful than a shower to pull you out of sleep. Not only will it encourage you to get out of bed earlier, but allows you to regroup and clear your head so you can face the day as the best version of yourself. Citrus and tropical scents like lemon or mango stimulate your senses and invigorate your mood. Additionally, the morning is the best time to shave, as your body surges with platelets (blood clotters), meaning fewer cuts.
