Last night I went out with a couple of girlfriends here in London. We know each other from Denmark, where we come from, and we all moved here around the same time this summer.
We occasionally catch up on our London lives and how things are going for us work-wise and personally. We came to discuss the importance of following one’s dreams. Two of us have a boyfriend back home, and we both feel how different it is now that we are so many miles apart from our loved ones. We have friends at home who had big dreams of moving abroad too, but who chose to stay because of their partner. And we got to talking! Because how big of a shame is it to leave your dream for the sake of your relationship? I am not saying that we should all just be selfish and not think about the important people in our lives, but I am saying that if we get a big opportunity or chance in our careers, we should try and pursue it!
I happen to believe – and maybe that’s a tad too romantic – that if two people are meant to be, they will find a way. If you are a career girl deep inside and feel the urge to go out and chase your dreams, you should do it!
“If we get a big opportunity or chance in our careers, we should try and pursue it!”
Someone close to me said, that if I hadn’t moved to London now that I got the chance because I was scared of ruining my relationship, I would probably find myself feeling bitter and frustrated that my boyfriend was the one who kept me from trying out what I had to offer to this world – and neither he or I deserve that! So what I am saying to you career girls out there is this, go and chase every chance you get and know that if that special someone loves you as much as you love them, you will be supported every step of the way! I believe in you.
