Your Ultimate Winter 2015 Makeup Routine

While we love summer, you can’t deny that winter is truly party season. With Christmas, holiday parties, staff parties, birthday parties and New Year’s Eve, there’s a lot to look forward to. We use these long, dark days as motivation to party – giving us something to look forward to at least. And, as always, the party season is all about glamour, faux fur, embellishments and winter-proof makeup.

We know you want to look like a star in all the photos from your latest event, so we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to get the shimmering party look of 2015.

Prepping Your Skin:

We recommend using exfoliator pads or getting a Foreo device (10% off and free shipping only until December 11th with code CAREERGIRL) because we love the Foreo Luna. If that’s not your thing there are tonnes of other recommendations on our beauty section! Go for it with your normal cleanser and prime your skin with a soft moisturiser 10 minutes before you apply makeup.

#1 Use a primer

Primer is the beauty essential for party season. It’s all about silky, dewy foundation, and there’s no better way to achieve that than with a great oil free primer. My favourite is Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer at the moment.

#2 Use a lightweight foundation

While it’s tempting to cake it on, a lightweight foundation won’t change too much in varying temperatures. So if you go from a freezing cold street to a hot restaurant, your makeup will stay intact. Apply it with a beauty blender for maximum coverage and flawless looking skin. We’re loving No Foundation Foundation by PerriconeMD, which comes in two gorgeous shades and is as dewy and lightweight as they come a true cult favourite!

#3 Make your brows natural and feathered

A while ago, overdrawn brows were the trend, but this holiday season it’s all about soft, natural brows. DIPBROW Pomade by Anastasia Beverly Hills is the perfect solution, paired with your favourite angled brush all you need to do is apply a tiny amount through your brows to give them shape and definition. Finish up by brushing a brow finishing gel like Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel by Benefit Cosmetics through the hairs to give them a truly natural look.

#4 Smokey eyes and strong lips

Yep, it’s all about smokey eyes and strong lips. An easy look to re-create with the right tools, you’ll need a great palette like Naked 2 by Urban Decay (a must-have!) and a strong creamy lip colour to match like Matte Revolution Lipstick by Charlotte Tilbury. To create smokey eyes all you need to do is sweep darker colours onto the outer corner and soft, shimmery shades closer to the inner corner, for a wide-eyed look, apply a little white or light colour on the inner corner of your eye towards the bridge of your nose.

#5 Get the glow

Highlighter is supposed to be a summer product, but actually, this dewy winter party look is nothing without a soft buttery shimmer. If you’re a fan of contouring, you really need a highlighter just on top of your cheeks to create definition, and if you’re not known to contour, you need it for glowy, dewy skin in photographs.

You don’t want your skin to look dry and dull. My recommendation is BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector, it’s a highlighter that doubles up as a moisturiser and is perfect for creating a shimmery highlighted glow.
